FIRST Power Up is the FIRST Robotics Competition game for the 2018 season. The game and field was themed around retro arcade games. Two alliances of three teams each will go head to head to earn points. This year’s game has a retro, 8-bit theme and teams are required to place milk crates, or “power cubes”, on large balancing scales to tip the scale and gain ownership. Alliances can also trade power cubes for power ups, giving them a temporary advantage in the game. At the end of the match, robots who are elevated at least one foot will earn additional points.
2018 Robot: Pac-Bot
Pac-Bot is our robot designed for FIRST Power Up. It grabs and sucks up cubes with its arms and shoots them out into the exchange and switch. During the Lone Star Central Regional, Pac-Bot had a lift attached, but it was removed so we could focus on consistently filling the vault and quickly shooting cubes instead. Pac-Bot is very small and light (Just 80 pounds!) which allows it to easily be lifted by other robots. It’s also a great defender and was able to push around tall scale-bots throughout the season.
